Manor Golf Club was established in 1991 and after numerous alterations through the course’s short history it has now more or less settled into what most golfers believe to be a good test for all levels of handicap.

In 1989 the Bathew family decided that they’d had enough of farming and that to make the best use of the land then ‘why not build a golf course’. The family started with building a brand new clubhouse on top of Leese Hill and asked Mr Ted Anderson, a local architect and family friend, if he would design a 9 hole course on 70 acres of old farmland. This was a really good ‘fun’ course to play and for a first attempt, not a bad design at all. Indeed, the owners’ only regret now is not taking more photographs (isn’t that always the case!). After 4 years, some neighbouring land became available and it was decided that as the membership was improving, then maybe a course extension was warranted. In 1994 the club purchased another 33 acres of land and duly brought in a golf course constructor to change the existing 9 holes into an 18 hole golf course. This involved a complete reshaping of the original course, the only holes still remaining from the 9 hole course are the 1st and 2nd.

In 1996 the club held its first full 18 hole competition. It really was a memorable day and enjoyed by all. Shortly after this, the greens suffered 'Take All' disease. This disease decimated the new greens and it would be 2 years before the course recovered. In 1999, the club acquired another 16 acres and built 3 brand new holes incorporating 4 new greens built to USGA specification. These were opened in 2001. In opening these greens the club gained an extra 500 yds, boosted the par of the course to 71 and also replaced 3 poorly constructed greens with 3 top quality ones.

In 2003, another USGA green was constructed on the site of the most unfair green on the course, a wickedly sloping green that was still left over from the original 9 hole course. Since that time, the course has never looked back. Indeed, improvements have been made each year and the golf course is now a testing 6,206 off the white tees.
