Forest of Galtres is a parkland course situated in the heart of the ancient Forest of Galtres, just two miles from the northern section of the ring road around the historic city of York. From the seventh green, York Minster is visible to the south, and to the north, 20 miles away, one can see the White Horse of Kilburn on the Hambleton Hills. The rural and peaceful nature of this ancient forest area, with its mature oak trees, has been enhanced by much additional tree planting. The course covers about 120 acres and is an 18 hole course measuring 6,534 yards from the medal tees. It is par 72 and the SSI is 71.

The lakes on the course have been designed to provide water storage for irrigation whilst at the same time coming into play as interesting water hazards. A computer-controlled pop-up irrigation system has been installed to serve all tees and greens. All of the greens have been constructed to the high and demanding specification of the U.S.G.A. in order to create putting surfaces capable of year-round play. This 'perched water table' concept is a major contributory factor towards the superb quality of the greens, providing an even and true putting surface.

Alastair Grindlay, the golf professional, is a custom-fit specialist of PING equipment but also stocks a wide range of the latest golf products. Every product in the golf market can be purchased from Alastair Grindlay Golf at the very best prices.

The 6-bay covered driving range is an additional benefit for members and visitors. The double central teaching bay provides a great area for learners. It also provides an excellent facility where members and visitors can practice prior to playing a round of golf. The clubhouse is open from 8 a.m. each morning. The steward is there to serve refreshments from 11 a.m.
